Felixstowe & Walton 1 - 2  Woodbridge Town

Match Report

 Att: 212

We all know that you can have a fabulous pre-season but struggle in the league. You can also have a poor run in those games yet excel in the season ahead. Nevertheless, everyone would prefer a decent string of results in the summer friendlies.

For the Seasiders, it’s been a real mixed bag with defeat to lower league opponents Whitton United and Woodbridge Town and an impressive win over higher league opposition in Leiston FC. The game that went according to form was the away win at Newmarket.

In front of a very healthy 212 fans it looked like the perfect start against Woodbridge when Josh Kerridge netted for Felixstowe after 19 minutes. Momentum was the buzzword. With wins against first Leiston and then Woodbridge, everyone would have been happy. But the bubble burst just 2 minutes later when Dan Davis’ glancing headed attempted clearance ended up in his own net. It happens to the best of defenders but that fact probably didn’t console Dan at that stage.

Woodbridge extended their lead with Ryan Keeble converting from inside the box on 28 minutes and although this was a pre-season friendly, there was a competitive edge to proceedings with one or two players perhaps playing for starting positions ahead of the coming season.

The second half saw a number of substitutions with Miles Powell, Rory Porter, Rhys Henry and Ethan Clarke all entering the field of play for the home side. Both Sam Ford and Ben Clarke went close more than once and a Jack Ainsley effort glanced off the post following a very impressive run from midfield.

The first team head off to Kempston Rovers for their final pre-season friendly on Saturday before they line up for the opening fixture in The Bostik North against Bury Town FC on the 11thAugust.

After the game it was good to note that Sam Ford signed for the club for the coming season.
