Supporters Corner - A Big Thank You To Kev O'Donnell

A message from our supporters corner - Neil and Jon.

A big thank you to Kev O’Donnell.

At the moment things are proving tough for our team at step 4 level,  Jon & I were watching Felixstowe when Kevin arrived some 6 years ago to get the club moving in right direction, win lose or draw the Seasiders are the number one topic of conversation in our household.

Football fans can be a fickle old lot but not us, we haven’t forgotten the season of 2013/2014 and what a season it was, 36 games played we were sitting on the top of the pile having only lost 4 league games, home & away  all season, 1 point clear of Hadleigh, battling it out on 3 fronts, the league title, the Suffolk Premier Cup and the League Cup. We went to Norwich United in the league needing to win to keep the treble alive, Norwich United were on a super run at the time and they edged us out 1 – 0. It was enough to take the league title away from us. Who could forget the Premier cup run, going to Sudbury and beating them 3 –2 under the lights on their own turf (it used to be turf then and a very nice pitch it was too) also beating a Needham side full of big names in the semi-final under the lights at Leiston’s ground, a lovely goal from Milo, top corner settling the matter. The Needham keeper didn’t even bother to dive, great stuff,  Kevin had the side playing with confidence and they were not fazed by the teams from higher levels. As it turned out our success become our downfall and with only a paper thin squad, often relying on 13 players we became victims of our own success, playing 3 matches, including 2 finals in a week proved too much and we finished worthy runners up in both finals and third in the league where everything was decided on the last day of the season.

So to Kev,  I hope you will read this, thanks for the memories, we appreciate the many, many hours you must have given the club over the last few years and wish you all the best for the future.

Neil & Jon
