U23s apply to enter Isthmian Development League

Felixstowe & Walton United U23s have applied to join the Isthmian Development League.

Following the resignation from the Essex & Suffolk Border League towards the end of last season, The Seasiders U23s have applied to join the Isthmian Development League and this is expected to be formally ratified at the forthcoming Isthmian League AGM.

The Development League is a dedicated U23 competition and is currently split between a North and South Division. Although the league line up for 22/23 hasn't yet been revealed, the Bluefin Insurance Development League North Division included 7 teams in 21/22 - Haringey, Bowers & Pitsea, Potters Bar, Bury Town, Barking, Tilbury and Heybridge Swifts.

If ratified, the Seasiders home games will be staged on Monday evenings at Dellwood Avenue.

Chris Daynes, Co-Chairman commented "It's been a tough few seasons for the U23s (formerly Reserves) in leagues which were perhaps not best suited for developing our young talent. By playing U23 sides from clubs of a similar stature, alongside better pitches and facilities, it will help us with player retention and recruitment. From the games I watched last season, the better performances were against the young footballing sides such as Sudbury Sports where we could get the ball down and play football, so I'm sure we will see more of that going forward. By playing in a predominantly midweek league, it will also give the players the opportunity to dual register with Saturday sides to gain minutes and experience, which will in turn help them with the goal of progressing to First Team football with Felixstowe."

Joint Managers Ian McCormack & Tom Eagle are seeking to recruit players ahead of the U23 season. For further details contact Ian on 07775 736644 or Tom on 07754 487799.
