Seasiders Big Walk 2018

It was the hottest day of the year so far, but still people turned out for The Seasiders Big Walk on Sunday. Actually, some people walked on Friday, others on Saturday and there’s still time for people to get involved even after the event.

So far, more than £550 has been collected, around £3,000 has been pledged and more than £250 was raised simply by going in to numerous hostelries scattered around the town with a bucket!

If the truth be told, those people visiting the town’s drinking dens did take just a little longer to complete the walk but did also return to the clubhouse quite happy!

Twenty-five per cent of the money raised is destined for Prostate Cancer UK and a further twenty-five per cent will go to EACH (East Anglian Children’s Hospices). The football club’s ground development fund will receive a minimum of £1,500 towards the compulsory building of a new stand behind the goal, a new, covered, hard standing area and perimeter fencing.

Promotion to The Bostik North brings with it obligations to develop the ground and the cost is not insignificant. After various grants and other fundraising the club still needs to raise around £10,000. The Big Walk’s contribution will most certainly help in trying to attain that goal.

The feedback received from the people taking part has been overwhelmingly positive. People really did seem to enjoy the day, whether they did the 3, 6 or 10-mile options. And therefore…….following more than a few requests, it has already been decided to make the Seasiders Big Walk an annual event.

Remember, there are many avenues that remain open. The walk can still be done even if not in Felixstowe. People who have completed the walk can still be sponsored even now and, of course, donations to the Ground Development Fund can still be made.

We all know successful the annual fireworks display is and how it benefits the club.  We are now determined, within a few years, to make the Seasiders Big Walk a major Summer event in the town.
