Under 12 Girls Match Stories 2017/18

Stowupland - Home

Sunday 17th September 2017

Suffolk Girls and Womens Football League

On what was a beautiful day at Dellwood Avenue, the u12's welcomed Stowupland hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. The pitch was in fantastic condition, Chris was in the clubhouse so all the parents could get a cuppa or a bacon roll if needed!

Roger had advised that he was likely to be there just before kickoff so Pat took over warming up Jorja in goal. A job he is likely to lose as she took unwell and had to miss the first half!

So the team had an unusual look to it and thank you to Lizzie and Talia who did 15 minutes each in goal. We had a new player join us in Nicole so we had some cover. Erika was voted "player of the week" last week so was captain this week.

We started ok but got frustrated when we missed great opportunities to score and as the half progressed we lost our shape a little and forget some of the basics ( marking, taking a touch when we could)

At half time I sensed the girls were keen to put it right and it was only a question of doing what we are good at and with Jorja feeling better and going into goal, we lined up as normal.

As soon as the first goal went in, we relaxed and started to dominate the game. Goals came from Erika (2) Amy and Taila. Final score 4-0

The only difference between the 2 halves was a better attitude towards the basics which the girls know are required in every game.

Played 2, won 2, goals for 9, goals conceded nil.

This weeks "Player of the week" was Amy who will be captain next week.

Big thanks to Jimmy for being ref and all the parents for their support and help on match days.

Next weekend we have the 4v4 tournament at Thurston on the Saturday morning ( details already on a previous post but I will post again in the week) we have one team entered as one or two are not about.

On the Sunday we are at home to IVR (Blue) in the cup. Kick off 10.15. This season they have split into two teams, blue and white, so it promises to be a good match.

For next Sunday's match can the players please be at Dellwood for 0940

Have a good week

Capel St Mary - Away

Sunday 10th September 2017

Suffolk Girls and Womens Football League

Our first game of the season saw us travel to Capel St Mary FC who were basically the East Bergholt team from previous years but recent events has seen them move the short distance over the A12.

We arrived with no subs so the team picked itself but there was a large, grassy pitch which suited our counter attacking style. Jorja was our captain for the day with the girls voting to stick with lasts seasons method of the " player of the week" being the captain the following match. Supported by our usual excellent parental following, the girls got off to a good start and the first half was totally dominated by Felixstowe.

I had set the girls 3 key targets to achieve and at half time I was very happy with the performance. Somehow, the half finished with no score and Jorja was a virtual spectator. We could have been 4 or 5 goals up and it was only a matter of time before one came along.

The girls just needed patience, to keep doing what they were doing and it would come. There was a change at half time with Amy and Talia switching wings and this made a difference with us scoring quite early on but only after Jorja made a vital (and very brave) save in what was a very rare Capel attack. The goal settled the girls down and our front 3 started to work closer as a unit and tore the Capel defence apart with a further four goals arriving and it could have been more.

Scorers were Amy 1, Erika and Talia with 2 each. Final score 0-5.

There was much to be pleased about, maybe in the first half they were a little "rusty" but soon got going and the attitude from everyone was spot on!

Our shape and marking without the ball was very good, we tried to pass or move into open spaces when we could and our attacking play was supported by tireless work from Tildy in the middle plus Lily and Lyla both defending very well. All in all a great team performance and reflected by the parents posting a variety of names for "player of the match" but in the end it was Erika who got the nod. It honestly could have been any of them.

Well done girls. Next week we are home to Stowupland at The Goldstar and details of that will be posted during the week so please keep an eye out.

No training until after October half term so see you all on Sunday the 17th where we hope to have at least one if not two players back to add some competition for places.
